The CODE Project:
Co-Operative Data Experiment
A joint project with the Institute of Applied Systems Technology of
the Joanneum Research Graz
Overview:
- VSAT system for Ku- and Ka-Band satellites in star and mesh
configuration
- Supports LAN interconnection by satellite and multi-media
applications
- Successful tests and demonstrations using the OLYMPUS satellite at
20/30 GHz
- Tele-education and business applications via HISPASAT satellite:
ETSIT tele-lecturing project linking 8 universities in Spain
- Fixed installation system (dish size:80-100 cm) and brief-case
sized unit ("Picoterminal") available
- Field trial of the Picoterminal system via KOPERNIKUS satellite in
1995 (collection and dissemination of environmental data)
- Ideal for communications in areas with inadequate communications
infrastructure
- Standard protocols, applications and platforms supported (file
transfer, database access, E-mail, remote log-in)
- CODE implements protocol for optimised use of channel
capacity
